Welcome to l'Alt Empordà

l'Alt Empordà forms north-eastern corner of the Spain peninsula, here the Mediterranean sea meets the mountains of  the Catalonia heartlands; home
of the Costa Brava (the wild coast) and the surrealist artist Salvador Dalí.

Your rural Costa Brava vacation home is so close to the French border and Languedoc-Roussillon, that exploring two different countries one holiday is easily possible. Discovering that the Catalan flag is flying on both sides of the French and Spanish border intrigues many first time visitors, the Catalan lands were once a separate and independent country and the Catalan people have a long, proud and independent history.

Heritage sites such as the Romanesque town of Besalú or Empúries founded by the Greeks in 575 B.C are only a short drive from your holiday villa in the rural Costa Brava. Away from the crowds, independent minded travellers will find that short drives around the diverse landscape that forms the Province of Girona, will lead you to discover many picturesque pueblos (small towns and villages) each with its own cultural identity. Restaurants serving regional dishes and their own culinary specialties are a particular delight.

The tranquillity of the countryside contrasts with the bustling holiday resorts of Empuriabrava, L'Escala and Roses on the Costa Brava coast. They provide a wealth of tourist style shops and restaurants and are only a 30 minute drive from your vacation home.

Excellent and affordable railway links connect Figueres with Barcelona where a day shopping and sightseeing in the impressive Catalan capital city will entertain any visitor.

Girona City is well worth a visit its interesting old town and former Jewish quarter are the principal attractions.
