Villages in l’Empordà host festivals and fiestas throughout the year which celebrate the passing of the seasons, a saints day and the harvesting of food produce from the fertile lands of the region. Artisans display specialist foods like local honey, sheep's cheese etc. Some of the items on display have their own cultural identity such as the cheese from the Basque region shown in the bottom photograph. Bakers from the town of Vic bake a special large loaf for the fiestas which is a nice accompaniment to chicken roasted over a wood fire.
